CoreWeave, Inc. has announced a significant £1.5 billion expansion in its AI data centre capacity within the United Kingdom, elevating its total investment in the country to £2.5 billion. This move aims to fortify the UK's AI infrastructure by establishing facilities focused on sustainability and environmental goals.

The declaration came during President Donald J. Trump's state visit to the UK and is part of a strategic move to address the nation’s demand for cutting-edge infrastructure tailored for comprehensive AI workload management. This investment is poised to propel the UK Government's Compute Roadmap, offering robust AI infrastructure to enterprises, public sector units, research facilities, and startups.

CoreWeave's initiatives will not only bolster Britain's AI capabilities but also generate employment opportunities in engineering, operations, and ancillary services. Michael Intrator, Co-Founder of CoreWeave, expressed high expectations for this venture, highlighting its potential to establish one of the largest sustainable compute hubs globally.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer acknowledged the investment as a "vote of confidence" in the UK’s ability to become a global AI giant. He emphasised the importance of nurturing innovation and creating skill-heavy roles by forging partnerships like this.

The collaboration between CoreWeave, NVIDIA and DataVita plans to roll out NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Ultra GPUs, using renewable energy and advanced cooling technology, particularly targeting water conservation. This underscores CoreWeave's commitment to eco-friendly solutions across its European data centres.

With an additional focus on sovereign AI infrastructure, CoreWeave intends to incorporate NVIDIA's GB300 GPUs and RTX PRO Blackwell Server Edition GPUs, reinforcing Scotland's economic contributions.

As Danny Quinn of DataVita remarked, this initiative amplifies Scotland's prominence as a major player in AI advancements, paving the way for further growth and innovation.

This announcement forms part of CoreWeave's broader strategy of consistent global investment. Previously, in May 2024, the company allocated £1 billion for UK operations, successfully launching two AI data centres within a swift six-month timeframe.

In the US, CoreWeave committed more than $6 billion to establish a top-tier data centre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, reaffirming its dedication to championing the global AI ecosystem.

Through CoreWeave Ventures, the company supports innovative AI projects by offering resources such as direct capital investments, compute-for-equity transactions, and technical collaborations, all aimed at fast-tracking the future of computing.
